DRY DOCK : HULL SURFACE PREPARATION & PAINTING

The basic requirement for coatings is that they be applied over a clean, dry surface that is free from: Oil, grease, dirt and chemicals – prevents adhesion of the coatings. Water soluble materials like sodium chloride - causes blistering of paint. Soluble ferrous salts - in contact with steel and moisture initiates rusting of steel. Loose rust – loss of adhesion. Mill scale – causes accelerated localize.
